21st August, 2008

My favourite picture of the night!!!  It's like the cover of that Abba album where one couple are snogging and the other are about to divorce.

Wouldn't mess with The Norton though!

Those are killers' eyes those.

ANYWAY!!!

Here are some lovely photos from the book launch!

Over a hundred people showed up on Tuesday and it felt like a really artistic, convivial and groovily bohemian sort of an event.  I was thrilled.

When the much praised, much talked about and uniquely gifted singer songwriter Beccy Owen took the stage it was as though she sprinkled a little magic glitter and class into the room.

And I got to watch the gorgeous and delightful Laura Norton and Vicky Elliott read from the novel. It is the best feeling to watch someone bring your writing to life.  I couldn't stop smiling.  They are so brilliant!!! I was happier than all the fishes in the sea! :)  img_1649_400

And they were so wonderful.

And then I came on and said some stuff.  I have no idea what but at some stage I thanked people!

img_1659_400

I thanked Paul and Stu at Tonto Books, Northern Stage, Claire Malcolm and everyone at New Writing North, Beccy, Vicky and Laura.  I thanked Stephen Shieber.  I thanked Carol Clewlow who tutored me in prose on my MA, and I most especially thanked Caroline Smailes who has been my mentor in the final stages of the novel.  I made her come up to the stage and accept a T-shirt and a Simon Cowell signed photo I'd bought off ebay.  No-one understood why.  But we knew!

We had a little hug!

Then I was done!  Carol Clewlow bought me a giant glass of wine!!! Hurrah for her.

Laura Norton then read Sour Milk from Being Normal.

And she was belters!

Then Stephen came on and did more thank yous.

And unlike me Stephen even reminded people that they could buy books at the event!

Then Beccy came on for a little more singing!

I sat on the floor at the front with my best friend, and we watched Beccy Owen sing Mention - my most favouritest ever song of hers from her The Singer Kicks CD.

And then there was a raffle which was mental magic.  Vicky Elliott managed to steal the show with a bleeding raffle!!!  Who'd have thought it!

She is raffletastic!!!

Here she is, hoping that someone might actually have a winning ticket!

And then we were done.  Other than the signings!

Look at all the lovely books that need to be sold.

Then we signed and signed until our hands got tired.

Sort of.

But we did sign lots and I did have a very lovely evening.

Then I went home and got very drunk!

THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO SHOWED UP AND I REALLY HOPE YOU HAD A LOVELY EVENING!
