Rapid Response

8th February, 2010

So comrades!

The other week, a few days after the Bare Bones evening at The Old Red Lion...I scampered back down to London to go and see a new play called Slaves at Theatre 503 in Battersea .

I was intrigued to see the play as Rex Obano the writer is one of the Theatre505Five....five emerging writers that they think might be the names to watch for the future.

The play was really exciting for many reasons, the language was so unusual, the direction really pacy and the writing very honed and accomplished for a new playwright.  I was particularly impressed with Scarlett Johnson's performance. I might even write her a whole play!

Anyway....writers attending the play were given the opportunity to write short plays as a response to Slaves. We had about three days from seeing the play to submitting out scripts.

So off I went - hopeful for inspiration that I could work into a script..and I came up with a fifteen minute play called Free.

I have no idea whether it is any good.  I tried something structurally that I've not done before...and it works in my head...but whether it translates to stage we will have to wait and see...

But it has been selected and will be performed at Theatre 503 on Monday 15th February. To be directed by Hannah Tyrell-Pinder.

So...that's exciting!

And now I'm dead nosey to see what other people have come up with.

Anyway - if you're down Battersea way on Monday then do pop in and see my little play!
