Ladies and Gentlemen.....I present....Alison Carr!
16th March, 2009
So...continuing the exciting exposees (?) on brilliant emerging playwrights I bring to your table the very magic Alison Carr.
I saw a play of Alison's a few years back. The very wonderful 'My Mam Was an Ice Cream Blonde' - at The People's Theatre in Newcastle. The play was the winner of that years People's Play Award and very deservingly so too.
In fact the reviews agreed :
“a play that stood out from the norm… emotive and original” - The Evening Chronicle
The next play of hers that I saw was at a lunchtime at The Apartment in Newcastle - ‘Mam, Dad, Monkey and Me’ – Bitzesize Theatre, New Writing North.
Reviews : “[a] little gem” – The Journal
The play went on to win the Yvonne Arnaud Playwriting Festival. I really loved it. So much so that I went back to see it again when it was produced as part of a double bill with another Alison Carr play called Patricia Quinn Saved My Life at The Round Theatre.
Alison has also written other plays including: 'The Girl in the Biscuit Tin’ – Live Lines Festival, Live Theatre and ‘Who’s Afraid of Virginia Wade?’ – OVNV 24 Hour Plays, Old Vic. And a rehearsed reading of her one act play 'That One Night' at Live Theatre.
And she has many more to come...not least her new play 'When Skies are Grey' which will be part of the 4Play tour that I've also written a short play for.
Following that she has a play called ‘Second Most Disappointing’ being produced by Cloud Nine between 1-4 June @ The Customs House, South Shields
I bet they will all be belters...and happily suggest that you all go along and see them....
Happy Days
Love Roz xx
