Just checking in

12th August, 2008

So.  I feel that I should have written something yesterday, as after all it was the official release date of Everything You Ever Wanted.

Tonto Books had promised balloons and flowers and a limo full of kittens for Stephen Shieber and myself - but in actuality we were simply rewarded with a wee interview each on BBC Newcastle radio with Alfie Joey.

That's my first radio interview and it seemed to go okay, although I was a little taken aback by some of the questions. Terribly personal!!  But he seemed a lovely lad so I shall forgive him.

And I shall be more media savy should the opportunity arise again!

The trouble with writing fiction is that people think it's true.  That it is somehow something of your own life that you are sharing - and with this novel that just isn't the case. Fiction is what it says it is on the cover...honest. But hey.

Also, there's been the strangeness of people from a zillion years ago being in touch, and I'm not entirely sure how to work with that one.  Some I've responded to, some I'm not sure what to say.  I will get around to it - but it's all a bit blurry in a way.

And it may sound crazy, but it hadn't even occurred to me that some of these people would ever buy the book, or read it.

And Oh dear.

I kind of want to sit down with every person who reads the novel and explain why it is how it is, and what it's meant to be saying.

Although that would make me a control freak wouldn't it?

So, I won't do that.

I shall instead sweat it all out on the treadmill and then drink a large glass of wine, all the while telling myself not to take everything so seriously.

Oh and I have lots more book signings coming up.  I'll add them in a few days!

Be happy and chilled!
