Half Way Through the Run
3rd June, 2010
So we are now half way through the run. The Rascally Scoundrels were all very green and slightly nauseous a few days ago before the opening afternoon of our plays.
Alison Carr & I spent the first few days wearing down the cobbled streets of Prague. No time for sight seeing - we were all about handing out leaflets and flyers.
But even through we did every cafe on the recommended list - and a few more. There was stil no guarantee that we would have any kind of audience.
All I could think was how horribly depressing it would be for us all to have done all this work, all those rehearsals - all the time given up etc...to have no-one in the audience.
Imagine all the Scoundrels coming home with their tails between their legs...
So...we had no idea what to expect. The cast of Jill Dellow, Mat Hobbins and Faye Greenwell have been so amazing throughout. But even they looked a little terrified...right up to the point where Faye steps onto the stage for the opening of Blood. And then everything was fine.
We managed a lovely supportive audience of 15. Which for our first afternoon was thrilling.
As they started coming in and taking their seats Alison and I managed to breathe.
Our first time Director - Degna Stone - has managed to navigate learning lighting, stage management, 'Get ins' and 'Get outs' - as well as actually directing the plays and choosing the playlists for both songs...so we've been keeping her busy...
In hindsight - choosing to stage our first ever production in a different country, and to make it a double bill....was perhaps a little ambitious....:/
But yesterday was the best the show has ever been. Really slick and the cast were monumentally wonderful. So who knows. Maybe it will all feel worth it in the end.
Right now I'm exhausted.......so time to relax..until the show starts again this afternoon.
There will be photos to follow
